Bring Me Sunshine

It was great to be back on the football circuit this weekend and indeed, visiting a new ground in the shape of Morecambe FC's Mazuma Stadium. A relatively new home for The Shrimps, which replaced their former Christie Park in 2010.

I cover a lot less sport than I used to do, partly through choice, yet it plays an important role within my job. Challenging levels of concentration, anticipation and speed of reaction, the unpredicability of the action can be difficult to capture. Yet in order to improve myself as a photographer, I'm always keen to attend a handful of fixtures each season, the theory being that I will become a better operator in other areas of photography by polishing up on these transferable skills.
It’s been a difficult period in Morecambe's 105-year history with suspension from the league in July 2025 after failure to meet financial obligations, including payment of wages for staff and players. Fortunately this ban was lifted after an approved takeover, allowing the club to move forward. With many players having already departed however, a makeshift team has yet to make inroads within the National League, currently lying bottom of the divison. A 3-0 loss to Southend United didn't help their plight but I wish them luck for the remainder of the season.
