By Fair Means

Over the last few days, I've been covering scenes of celebration. On Friday I was commissioned to cover part of the Durham County Council election count at Consett Leisure Centre. History was made as Reform UK secured 65 councillors and control of the council as a whole. Then, on the bank holiday Monday, I photographed the National League match between Gateshead and Southend United with a playoff place at stake for either side. A draw was enough for Southend, the final whistle signalling the start of jubilant scenes shared by players, staff and 1,755 travelling fans.

Clearly these successes will not have been to everyone's tastes, which prompts me to consider an important part of my job: impartiality. While covering news or sporting events, documenting what happens in front of me in an objective manner is paramount, regardless of my views, politically or otherwise. Presenting information without demonstrating favouritism is a valuable concept I learnt during my press photography training and subsequent years working on newspapers.

On a lighter note, and adding to the the success stories of the last few days, after a six year wait, it was great to see my home team Bradford City secure promotion to League One on Saturday.
