It was a real pleasure to cover the Run For All Middlesbrough 10k last Sunday. It helped that it was such a lovely day, but to see the emotion on the faces of those competing when they crossed the finish line almost brought a tear to my eye, more than once.

Although such events attract elite runners in pursuit of record times and placements, it's the more casual competitors raising money for charity or taking part in memory of a loved one that I’d like to celebrate. These might be people who, for one reason or another, haven’t done much sporting activity in recent years. So for them to take on a challenge that gets them moving is a massive achievement.

Well done to all of those who took part on Sunday, and for all the money raised for great causes.
