We Will Remember Them

A real mix of jobs lately including coverage of an armistice day service as part of a shift for The Northern Echo. When working as a staff photographer for the Echo, remembrance services were covered annually, but this was my first for several years.

It has always been a privilege to attend these poignant gatherings held on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Seeing former and current servicemen come together, witnessing the lowering of the flags by the standard-bearers, hearing the sounding of the Last Post and experiencing the profound two minute silence provide food for thought.

Cummins engine plant in Darlington provided the setting - a new one for me. The rain just about held off for proceedings before those gathered headed indoors to be treated to a hot lunch served by the plant bosses. A mark of respect to those that have fallen in conflict while defending the nation.
