Dry January

The start of the year is often a worrying time for the freelancer. With many businesses shutting down for the Christmas and New Year period, hiring external trades people such as photographers is not high on the agenda. This inactivity therefore plays on the mind, and although it tends to be an annual cycle built in to the highs and lows of self-employment, there is always the chance that those client emails and phone calls will not return.

I feel this mental test is the hardest part about working for yourself and indeed, on your own. It is a far cry from the busy periods when you can fully immerse yourself in your work and the only real concerns are the lack of hours in the day.

Fortunately, my diary has picked up since the turn of the year and I am out and about once again taking photos of all manner of subjects. I would like to thank those who continue to hire me, making use of my abilities, and welcome the new clients I have attracted so far in 2024 and hopefully the ones to come throughout the year.
