Hot, Hot Shots!

It was lovely to be back photographing international cricket yesterday at Chester-le-Street after a gap of over two years thanks to Covid restrictions. A late announcement that it was to be the last One Day International game for Durham CCC's Ben Stokes added poignancy to the match, however it was the sheer heat of the day that I'll remember.

I've been fortunate enough to have never experienced such sweltering working conditions. A number of people required medical attention, and after an hour in the sun, my laptop decided it too preferred the more temperate climate that we're accustomed to. Fortunately the break between innings allowed both me and the microchips to cool down and resume normal service.

On the field, it sadly wasn't either England or Ben Stokes' day. But I feel it necessary to congratulate England and South Africa for coping with the conditions, and also Durham CCC for supplying extra water stations, medical staff and ice cream to me and the other photographers pitch side.
