August and September is show time within the agricultural world, and having covered many of these displays of livestock and produce over the years, it was nice to attend one I hadn't previously visited. On Monday, beautiful Swaledale provided the backdrop for the annual Reeth Show, in its 108th year no less.
A central ring played host to the judging of various categories of ponies, horses and carriages interluded by a motorbike stuntshow. Elsewhere a selection of produce was scrutinised under tarpaulin - from the best baked cakes, homemade jams and curds to impressively large onions and leeks. Brightly coloured flowers and artworks of various mediums were also being contested.
A sight to behold, seeing the best of the rural region on display. With many culinary delights also on offer, the temptation to indulge was overwhelming. Managing to stay strong however, it was actually a pair of merino wool slippers that had me reaching for my wallet. Perhaps a sign of my reaching a more mature age.
