Doing the Dos

Well, what a week it has been with four big evening events covered in seven days. Awards celebrations are one of several elements of my job as a photographer. With a large number of attendees and sometimes tight venue spaces in which to work, it can prove tricky to be in the right place at the right time to capture the key moments. However, the emotion on show from those taking part, and the stories of success and/or adversity overcome make them a rewarding experience.

The revelry began last Friday with the Richmond Business Awards. Held in the lovely Station venue within the town, this event is a coming together of all the shops, companies and enterprises of the area to celebrate their success. Savoury and sweet hors d'oeuvres were served while guests enjoyed the stories of successful entrepreneurship.

A trip over to Middlesbrough for my second event and the PFC Trust's Green and Blue Ball. A huge charity function which has grown in size over the years resulting in a venue move to Teesside University's impressive Digital Life building. Raising money was the focus of this get together supported by a star-studded guest list including former England and Liverpool footballer John Barnes, and Strictly Come Dancing professional Katya Jones.

On to Wednesday and a journey north to the Hilton Newcastle Tyne Bridge. A setting like no other to host the BusinessiQ Awards. Black ties and posh frocks were the order of the day and a reception which included an impressive selection of culinary treats. Memorable background stories proceeded trophy winners venturing to the stage to be congratulated by the forever enthusiastic host for the evening, Alfie Joey.

A further outing for the tuxedo as my week was completed at a very familar setting for me, the lovely Hardwick Hall. The Tees Business Awards welcomed Teesside's finest to attend a celebration of triumph and achievement. Sky Sport's Hayley McQueen took care of proceedings as host for the evening. Post filling three-course dinner, a Q&A interview with former England and Middlesbrough manager Steve McClaren entertained guests before another high calibre ensemble of category winners entered the stage to rapturous applause.

A very memorable week for many reasons, not least the amazing background stories I had the pleasure of hearing. I'm now looking forward to a couple of days of relaxation and not having to worry about the tightness of my evening dress shirt from over indulgence. A huge thank you as ever to those who have entrusted me with coverage of their events - you know who you are!!
