Last Sunday I continued my association with the Great North Run, which I've either competed in or photographed for the last 24 years. Even after all that time, it still sends tingles down my spine watching the sheer volume of runners taking part. People from all walks of life take part, many with amazing back stories and charitable reasons for challenging themselves over the 13.1 mile course.

This year I was covering the race on behalf of Barnardo's, the charity which supports children and young people. My task was to capture shots of their runners as they passed the four mile marker. Not an easy task trying to pick out around 100 green-vested individuals from the 60,000 total taking part.

In addition to my main duties of the day, I'm always drawn to those who decide to wear a costume or fancy dress for the occasion, making the task of completing the half-marathon distance considerably harder. In this post, I pay tribute to those wild and wacky individuals who bring a smile to my face every year when passing by.
