It's a bit colder, the weather is less predictable, but Autumn can be a wonderful spectacle on the eye and so it proved as a background for the wedding of Ian and Lizzie last month at Slaley Hall near Hexham. Having only visited the venue once before to photograph a golf tournament on behalf of The Northern Echo, I wasn't overly-knowledgeable as to the surroundings of the Edwardian mansion situated in Northumberland. Not a problem however as frequently this lack of familiarity of a location or situation gives a more objective outlook and allows you to see things which would otherwise be ignored through regular acquaintance.
One tree in particular caught the attention of both the newly-wed couple and myself. A fantastic assemblage of crimson leaves beside a small pond. It was a perfect setting for a special day in the middle of October.
