Daft about Dils

I always find March to be an uplifting time of year. Colour starts to return to the land in the form of snowdrops, crocuses and daffodils, buds appear on the branches of trees and dare I say it, the temperature starts to increase.

In Darlington where I live, there are several areas which catch the eye, including the vibrant and colourful carpet of crocuses off Southend Avenue. However, it's a different and less obvious location that I'm most drawn to.

A spot surrounded by concrete, including the disused Northgate House, and a constant stream of circling traffic is not where you would expect to see beauty. But it's within this roundabout centrepiece on Northgate that you can see a wonderful mass of bright yellow daffodils. Perhaps it's the juxtaposition of their location that makes them so appealing to me and I certainly appreciate the efforts of whoever planted all those bulbs however many years ago.
