Wedding Reversal

Last Friday the tables were turned as I found myself on the other side of the lens. This was deliberate as it was my own wedding day, and it was certainly an interesting experience to be the subject for once. Unfortunately the weather didn't play ball and conditions were very wet. We did however get a brief respite from the deluge giving my now wife Lucy and I, and photographer Emily enough time to get some outdoor shots.

It is Emily Carey who I want to acknowledge in this blog post. I have known her since we studied together on the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) press photography course at Norton College, Sheffield in 2001/02. We both went on to have successful careers working on newspapers, Emily at the Leicester Mercury and Newcastle Chronicle. Myself at the Scarborough Evening News (a job that was initially offered to Emily) and The Northern Echo. Circumstances and the decreasing state of newspapers has led to both of us leaving staff jobs in the industry, but fortunately, and so far, making a success of working for ourselves.

Emily's relaxed nature made the wedding shoot a pleasure to be part of, and her technical ability and eye for composition are evident in the images she produces. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is planning on tying the knot anytime soon.
